My son, Jared, is captain of whale watching, shark encounters and other sport-fishing charters out of the San Francisco Bay area. Janet and I visited him and my younger son, Matt, over the weekend of October 9 to 11 and Jared took me and Matt's step-daughter, Morgynne, out with him for whale watching on Saturday.
It was a magical experience. We must of seen seventy-five whales including Humpbacks and gigantic Blues along with a multitude of other marine life. We witnessed whales breach with all but the tip of their tails out of the water and then crash back into the ocean with a thunderous splash. What a day!
The following day Jared climbed to the top of the captain's perch with a movie camera and caught an 8 minute movie of three Humpback whales that adopted the boat and played with the vessel and its passengers for quite some time.
It was a tour offered by the Oceanic Society, so they took the video and posted it at their Web site and on YouTube. I embedded it here for your viewing pleasure:
