Carolyn asks: "What do I do when a message I sent is just sitting in the outbox?"
There are a number of reasons this happens. In this case it was simply waiting to be sent. Your Outlook client is setup to send and receive mail every 5 or 10 minutes. You do not have the "send immediately" option enabled. If you do not want to wait until the automatic send and receive occurs, just click on the "Send and Receive" button in the toolbar.
But sometimes this can be a more recalcitrant problem. I have multiple mail servers available for sending messages--provided by my Internet service provider (ISP), my domain host and Hotmail. I notice that sometimes one is not working and I can open the message in the outbox, select "Accounts" in the toolbar and choose another conduit for the message to travel and this resolves the problem.
If the message is still in the outbox, maybe your wireless network is down. Reset the cable modem and router by unplugging them, and then wait for 15 seconds and power up the cable modem. After the green lights go solid (ACT can still be flashing), power up the router. This will usually get your wireless network back to good working order.
Still not working? Either more information is required in order to troubleshoot the situation, or it is time to call your friendly computer technician and schedule a time for a house call.
