A new friend in the referral exchange group I joined a few months ago was a bit shaken by the Savant for a Day article I posted here recently. In a series of email messages we discussed the issues and potential meaning of accelerating change.
My last reply to her was in response to her question; "Do you believe in God?" The answer flowed quickly and spontaneously from the end of my fingers flitting across my keyboard. When done, I realized that I was deeply touched by my answer. It had been a long time since I had gathered my thoughts on this subject and putting it into words was an emotional experience.
This is what I wrote:
Yes, but I suspect we have a different definition of deity. My belief in God is based on my felt sense of things. It makes sense to me that an ultimate reality exists--it's a rational point of view based on my experience and the concept flows from my thoughts about the universe. Because of our nature, our limitations, our current comprehension, we do not fully understand this divine presence, but I believe it exists.
This gets back to my belief that the purpose of humanity is to evolve, to become more divine, to move toward the Ultimate Reality; God. In our compulsion to fulfill this purpose we discover, create, make decisions, analyze and categorize, seek, and slowly we move forward in our understanding of reality.
I say slowly because this process has been unfolding for 150,000 generations as humanity has been at the cutting edge of the progression. The larger truth is that it is happening quite fast in this local time/space in comparison to the progression of our progenitors. Before us the forefront of advancement, of evolution, took billions of years to move to the point where our species took over stewardship of the evolutionary developmental imperative. We discovered technology early in this role and have used it to maintain the accelerating pace of progress toward the divine.
Soon, humanity will be passing the baton to the next phase of the continuum. We are preparing the stage for that which will supercede us. I hope that my essence will be able to transform and become part of the next paradigm as a participant at the cutting edge still, but the process will go forward whether I am here, or not. Eventually, the universe will understand itself and "we" will know God.
So, that is the five cent tour of John's current spiritual insight. Like I said, we probably have a different definition of deity--at least I do not find large numbers of people who share my theology.
I would enjoy hearing about your belief system and your thoughts about these matters.
